Ebola is a very harmful disease. People have to take a lot of precautions to make sure that it doesn’t spread, so people don’t die. Most of my family lives in Cameroon, Africa, and Africa is the continent that has had countries with Ebola outbreaks. Knowledge of Ebola, how it developed, its causes, treatment, and knowing the science behind this disease can lead to fewer outbreaks. Ebola is a very harmful and even deadly disease. Many people wonder why the name Ebola was chosen for this disease. This disease is called Ebola because it was found in an area near the Ebola River. The source of Ebola is nonhuman primates, such as fruit bats of the pteropodidae family. Ebola was discovered in Yambuku, Sudan in 1976. There have been 1,001 deaths from Ebola since 1995. Many small outbreaks have happened since then, but there are no current cases now. A lot of the cases where from people travelling to places that have had Ebola outbreaks. Guinea, Liberia, Sierra Leone, Nigeria, Senegal, Spain, U.S., Mali, and the United Kingdom have all been affected by Ebola. Upon entering the village of DePue, IL, one may ponder about the festering odor of sulfuric acid in the air that clashes with the scenic view of a serene lake surrounded by wooded land. The main street of DePue is lined with locally owned businesses, along with abandoned, crumbling buildings. The community members of this village may either smile and wave at a passer-by, or glare at you with an off-putting facial expression. Despite the confusing impression a non-resident or visitor might form, DePue has an interesting history. DePue is home to about 1,800 residents whom are devoted to preserving the traditions that this community has to offer. I am quite familiar with the village of Depue, because my grandparents have lived here for nearly 50 years. My grandfather, Walter Ivan, used to own a barber shop on the main street for nearly 35 years, until he passed away in February of this year.
